Memoranda def5/19/2023 ![]() The subject line should define the specific topic that your information relates to and the opening paragraph should remove any question from the reader's mind regarding the built in who, what, where, when and why's of that topic. ![]() The scope of an informational memo should stick closely to the subject line of the heading, making its objective clearly comprehensible to its readers while alerting them to the relevance of the information it is delivering. Later, while drafting your memo, this list will be turned into complete sentences and a paragraph. On completion your objective will be clearly outlined. Eventually this list will become part of your opening. Be sure to think about how it is relevant to the reader. Below the heading, make a detailed list of the information you are providing. In most cases they are people from within your organization that share a need for the same information. Regardless of whether you have one, several, or many, you know who they are because they work with you. Informational memos are often, though not always, intended for multiple readers. Besides the actual information, the scope of a memo must provide a reason for why the information contained in it is relevant to the reader. The objective is to convey one or more pieces of information that relate specifically to the topic in the subject line. Unlike letters, the external communications of a company, business memos are an internal form of communication and it is standard practice to save them. Once acted upon, a memo is often thrown away. For example, a list of groceries to be picked up on your way home from work is a memo, a simple list of things to be remembered later. A memo, short for the word memorandum, comes from the Latin word memorandus, which means, "to be remembered." It is a compact written message designed to help someone remember something. Passwords plus reviews5/19/2023 ![]() If the hashes match, then the attacker has successfully guessed the password. However, if the original password is weak - or if an attacker has enough processing power and time - the password may eventually be guessed, which would result in the same hash. Hashing is technically a one-way function, meaning that if the only thing a site’s administrator (or an attacker) knows is the hash, they cannot somehow reverse it and extract the original password. Hashing creates a digital fingerprint that represents your password.Salting adds random bits to your password. If proper procedures are followed, sites should store your account details (including your password and credit card info) both “hashed” and “salted” using a strong cryptographic cipher. How sites are supposed to store passwords So even using a couple of different seemingly strong but memorable passwords isn’t a great idea. If they can access your e-mail, all the rest of your accounts are one reset-password request away from being compromised, too. ![]() Imagine a scenario where a forum gets hacked, your password is leaked, and then an attacker uses that database of leaked usernames and passwords to break into your bank account or your e-mail account. Either way, once your password is out there, attackers will try “credential stuffing” attacks: checking to see if anyone with the same username or e-mail address has reused that same password on other sites. This may be the result of a site storing passwords in a less-secure (or completely insecure) manner, or a determined attacker cracking your password. If one company’s password database is breached, your password may get exposed. One reason is credential stuffing attacks. You might wonder why it isn’t good enough to simply memorize one seemingly strong (but memorable) password and use it for every site. ![]() In addition, other DC comics characters appear: the character Killalla originates from the planet Oa (although technically from planet Maltus), and is an ancestor of the Guardians of the Universe, who form the Green Lantern Corps able to manipulate their characteristic green energy, but with incomplete control. The first aspect of Despair also appears in the story, quite different in appearance and more sociable than her latter aspect. Here, Death acts cold and imperious and Delight has not become Delirium whereas the defection of Killalla begins Dream's long-standing rivalry with Desire. At an encounter with her world's own sun, Sto-Oa, Killalla and the star fall in love at the behest of Desire, while Dream watches. Near the beginning of the habitability of the universe, Dream and his new paramour Killalla of the Glow travel to a meeting of astronomical phenomena, wherein Killalla is astonished to identify the delegates as the very stars, galaxies, and dimensions which comprise the cosmos. She eventually remarries and dies of old age.Ĭhapter 3: Dream - The Heart of a Star Thereafter, she no longer desires anything. Upon seeing her husband's severed head, she manipulates his killers' desire for her and has them perform contests of strength, skill, and wit, distracting them until her own warriors return the following morning to kill them all. Unfortunately, he is killed soon afterward, and his killers come asking Kara for shelter, which she grants in obedience to cultural tradition. As a result, he courts her for three months, until she consents to marry him. On the way she meets Desire, who promises to inspire an unbreakable longing in Danyal. Danyal travels to the coast while his father goes to negotiate an exchange of hostages upon the latter's failure, Kara sets out to tell the former that his father is dead. A woman named Kara, living in an apparently pre-Roman Britain, becomes enamored of Danyal, a handsome neighbour. Gaiman himself has said that the story is based on a historical anecdote told by George MacDonald Fraser. The title is probably taken from a line in Robert Frost's poem Fire and Ice. The island itself seems to be partially based on the real abandoned island of Poveglia.Ĭhapter 2: Desire - What I've Tasted of Desire ![]() The events in this story seem to be heavily influenced by Edgar Allan Poe's short story " The Masque Of The Red Death". The magician's desire on how to die from the beginning of the story was originally stated by Boris the bodyguard in Death: The Time of Your Life. The name is derived from Thomas Mann's 1912 novella Death in Venice. The remaining story is his return to that gate, subsequent dealing with Death, musings on the facade of reality, his obsession with Death, and his general melancholy. ![]() They return to Venice with him in disgrace. She asks him to open it, which he attempts to do until finally he is found by his cousins hours later. While playing hide and seek he gets lost and meets Death of the Endless before a locked gate. He walks around Venice speaking of time, illusion and trickery before seguing into an extended flashback of his childhood trip to Venice. The story is narrated by a man in his late twenties/early thirties who seems to be disillusioned with the world around him. It is split between two views: the lives of a group on an island off the coast of Venice protected by magic from Death versus the memories and thoughts of a young American (the conclusion suggests he is a special forces soldier) who has never forgotten his childhood encounter with her. This story deals with the idea of quality versus quantity of life. In line with all the other Sandman comics, the cover, logo and book designs were created by Dave McKean.Ĭhapters Chapter 1: Death - Death and Venice Destruction and Delirium's tales are the only ones that take place after the events of the Sandman series. It is also the first comic book to ever be on the New York Times Bestseller List. It won the Bram Stoker Award for Best Illustrated Narrative. The book is divided into seven chapters, each devoted to one of the Endless, a family of siblings who are physical manifestations of the metaphysical concepts Dream, Death, Desire, Destruction, Delirium, Despair and Destiny. Definition of musicality in dance5/19/2023 A few weeks later, as I walked down the stairs to Colwyn’s main lab, the words ‘communicative musicality’ came into my mind as a way of describing what I had heard. I am, by training, a musician, so I was very used to automatically feeling the beat as I listened to musical sounds.… I replaced the tape, and again, I could sense a distinct rhythmicity and melodious give and take to the gentle prompting of Laura’s mother and the pitched vocal replies from Laura. One of the first tapes was the vocal interaction of Laura and her mother.Īs I listened, intrigued by the fluid give and take of the communication, and the lilting speech of the mother as she chatted with her baby, I began to tap my foot. Seventeen years later, in 1996, in the Psychology Department at the very same university, Stephen Malloch listened to tapes of mothers and their babies ‘chatting’ with each other, recorded by Trevarthen in the 70’s. The analysis took place in his laboratory at Edinburgh University, and showed how the mother joined her daughter with imitative sounds that were modulated emotionally to invite the infant’s coos and to acknowledge them in shared time. In 1979, Colwyn Trevarthen did an acoustic analysis of video recordings of mother-infant interactions, among others of Laura, a 6-week-old girl, and her mother. thesis from 2002, ‘ComMusical’ Interplay in Music Therapy, relies heavily on infant research. Anaconda navigator install5/18/2023 ![]() ![]() GPUs are ideal for array processing, where elements of a large array can be computed in parallel. This is not a rigid requirement, as careful use of data locality and caching also matter, but the rule of thumb is a guide toward the kinds of problems best suited for the GPU. What counts as high arithmetic intensity? A good rule of thumb for the GPU is that, for every number you input, you want at least ten basic math operations (add, subtract, multiply, divide, etc) or at least one special math function call, such as exp() or cos(). As a result, it can sometime be better to recompute a value than to save it to memory and reload it later. The GPU can easily execute many math instructions in the time it takes to request and receive one number stored in GPU memory. These algorithms take advantage of the GPU’s high math throughput, and its ability to queue up memory access in the background while doing math operations on other data at the same time. What’s the commonality to all these successful use cases? Broadly speaking, applications ready for GPU acceleration have the following features:įor every memory access, how many math operations are performed? If the ratio of math to memory operations is high, the algorithm has high arithmetic intensity, and is a good candidate for GPU acceleration. Given how quickly the field is moving, it is a good idea to search for new GPU accelerated algorithms and projects to find out if someone has figured out how to apply GPUs to your area of interest. Monte Carlo simulation and particle transport.Other machine learning algorithms, including generalized linear models, gradient boosting, etc.The most successful applications of GPUs have been in problem domains which can take advantage of the large parallel floating point throughput and high memory bandwidth of the device. They are specialized coprocessors that are extremely good (>10x performance increases) for some tasks, and not very good for others. It is important to remember that GPUs are not general purpose compute devices. We’ll also focus specifically on GPUs made by NVIDIA GPUs, as they have built-in support in Anaconda Distribution, but AMD’s Radeon Open Compute initiative is also rapidly improving the AMD GPU computing ecosystem and we may also talk about them in the future as well. The Xeon Phi is a very interesting chip for data scientists, but really needs its own blog post. Note that we won’t talk about hybrid architectures, like the Xeon Phi, which combine aspects of both GPUs and CPUs. In this blog post, we’ll give you some pointers on where to get started with GPUs in Anaconda Distribution. Fortunately, Anaconda Distribution makes it easy to get started with GPU computing with several GPU-enabled packages that can be installed directly from our package repository. ![]() However, building GPU software on your own can be quite intimidating. In addition, GPUs are now available from every major cloud provider, so access to the hardware has never been easier. Computational needs continue to grow, and a large number of GPU-accelerated projects are now available. Otherwise, the wheel is similar to the G920/G29 but that's no bad thing. The new LED rev counter is a handy addition, too, and it's good to see that Logitech has brought over the 24-point rotary selection dial to the Xbox version of the wheel this time around.
